Checkride

See the checkride procedures before you spend the airplane time.

The practical test is flown in an aircraft. A procedure trainer lets you rehearse the picture first: departures, approaches, holds, intercepts, and DME arcs.

A field note, for the way ahead.

The instrument practical test is flown in an aircraft, with an examiner. IFR Suite does not take that flight for you. Time in the app is not flight time, instrument time, or credit toward the test.

What it changes is how much of the airplane lesson is spent seeing a procedure for the first time. Before the flight, you can rehearse the picture.

What to rehearse

Work one procedure at a time.

  • A departure, until the runway and the first turns are familiar.
  • The traffic pattern, until the circuit is a shape you can describe.
  • An approach, from the initial segment through the missed approach.
  • A hold. The entry is direct, teardrop, or parallel, chosen from your heading and from where you are relative to the inbound course.
  • An intercept, and a DME arc.

Glass or round gauges. The instruments stay in English. The session panel follows the language you choose.

What the airplane is still for

The app does not copy a clearance, and it does not grade you against the practical test standards. It does not replace the oral, the instructor, or the aircraft.

Use a short session, then fly the same procedure with your instructor. What you still cannot say out loud in the airplane is what the next session is for.

Not for a real flight.
