Short notes on the procedures in IFR Suite. They describe the exercise. They are not a clearance, a chart, or a procedure to fly in an aircraft.

Departure

A departure is the path from the airport out along the procedure. You practice the picture: the runway, the first turns, and where the route takes you.

Traffic pattern

The traffic pattern is the circuit around the airport: upwind, crosswind, downwind, base, and final. The exercise is the geometry of that circuit.

Approach

An approach runs from the initial segment through the final segment and into the missed approach. You follow the courses, altitudes, and fixes as a picture, on a glass cockpit or on round gauges.

Holding

A hold has three entries. Direct when you can join the inbound course with little maneuvering. Teardrop when you need an outbound leg on the protected side. Parallel when you track outbound before turning back onto that side. You choose from your heading and from where you are relative to the inbound course.

Intercept

An intercept joins a course or a radial, then tracks it. You judge the intercept angle from your position.

DME arc

A DME arc stays at a chosen distance from a navaid while your heading changes along the curve.

Not for a real flight, and it does not log flight time. Cockpit instruments stay in English. The session panel follows the language you choose. More than 9,800 real airports and navaids.
