A field note, for the way ahead.

The instrument rating is an oral and a flight. Both happen with an examiner. The flight is in an aircraft. IFR Suite is not that test, and this page is not a guide to passing it.

The app does not ask the oral questions. It does not grade the flight against the test standards. Time in the app is not flight time, instrument time, or credit toward the rating.

What you can rehearse

One procedure, so the picture is familiar before you spend airplane time.

  • A departure, until the runway and the first turns are familiar.
  • The traffic pattern, until you can describe the circuit.
  • An approach, from the initial segment through the missed approach.
  • A hold. The entry is direct, teardrop, or parallel, chosen from your heading and from where you are relative to the inbound course.
  • An intercept, and a DME arc.

There are more than 9,800 airports and navaids. Glass or round gauges. The instruments stay in English. The session panel follows the language you choose.

What you still prepare with your instructor

The oral, the aircraft, and the standards the examiner will use. The app does not copy a clearance, and it is not a source of charts. There is no microphone. It is not for a real flight.

Use a short session, then fly the same procedure with your instructor.
